Barbara Tilmouth

Barbara was born in Alice Springs and has lived her whole life in Engawala Community with her family. She comes from a strong line of artists. Both her mother and grandmother were painters, and Barbara learned to paint by watching them work and listening to their stories. She began painting at a young age and has continued to develop her own style over the years.

Barbara mostly paints stories about honey ants, bush tucker, and bush medicine, using acrylic paint on canvas. These themes reflect the knowledge passed down through her family and the deep connection her community has with the desert country around Engawala.

Her artwork is shown and sold at major Indigenous art events, including the National Indigenous Art Fair in Sydney (NIAF), the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair (DAAF), and the Desert Mob marketplace in Alice Springs. Barbara’s paintings can also be found on the Engawala Art Centre website.
