This painting is called God’s Creation. It tells the story of how the land, animals, plants, and bush foods in Central Australia were made and cared for. It shows the connection between Aboriginal people and the Country.
The painting shows the desert land - hot, dry, and full of life. There are animals that live underground to stay cool, like the goannas that dig holes in the spinifex country. You can also see witchetty grubs, which are found under the roots of the witchetty bush, and honey ants, which hide under the mulga trees.
These animals and insects are important bush foods. Aboriginal people have gathered them for many generations. What God has created to feed and care for the people.
The painting also shows a time when it rains in the desert. After the rain, the land turns green, and bush tucker grows. This is when Aboriginal women go out and collect berries and fruits. You can see the women painted as curved shapes. These symbols show women sitting in a circle.
