This painting shows bush tomatoes growing wild in the desert country of Central Australia. These small, round fruits appear after rainfall. When the bush tomatoes turn yellow, they are ripe and ready to eat. If they are brown and dry from the sun, they are still good.

The curved shapes in the artwork represent women sitting on the ground, gathering the fruit. In remote Aboriginal communities, women go out into the bush together to find and collect bush tomatoes. Young women are taught by their Elders how to find the plants, how to know when the fruit is ready, this knowledge is handed down through generations.
