This painting tells the story about Aboriginal women going out into the bush to collect seeds from native plants. They can collect the bright red and brown seeds from the bean tree which are often used for making brightly coloured jewellery. This painting shows groups of women sitting on the ground, they have an oval coolamon beside them, a wooden bowl used in the old days to collect food into. Seeds are also carried by the wind across the land, drifting over the sandy ground until the big rains arrive.
When the rain falls, the seeds come to life. They grow into green leafy plants and grow tiny flowers which bloom for a short time.
Knowledge about which plants to collect from and the right time to collect the seeds, has been passed down through families of Aboriginal women.
