This is a painting about bush tomato’s that grow wild across Central Australia.
After a big rain the plant grows small purple flowers and produces green fruit which slowly starts to ripen in the sun. Local Aboriginal women and families who live nearby in remote communities go out into the bush to collect the fruit. When the fruit is yellow it is ripe and ready to eat. The fruit can also turn brown and dried by the sun, this is still good to eat.
Knowing how to identify the food and fruits is passed down from one generation to the next. It helps families stay connected to their country.
