The bones in “Ruby Salt bush in Central Desert Country” are found at the old settlement Alcoota. These mega fauna creatures have lived in the area about 8 million years ago and their bones are still being discovered. Many of these fossil bones are now on display at Megafauna Central in Alice springs.
The Ruby saltbush also grows in this area. The local people eat the leaves and berries raw or soaked in water to make tea. The ruby salt bush grows well in the desert and can survive a long time without rain. The salt bush berries, leaves, flowers and seeds can be seen in this painting.
