The painting “Summer In the Central Desert” shows the bush potato plant which grows after the rain. The vegetable is cooked in the ground by the local people and is sweet tasting.

The bones seen surrounding the bush potato are from the ancient mega fauna which walked on Alcoota land about 8 million years ago. Alcoota is rich in fossils and about 30 species of prehistoric animal have been found here. Bronwyn’s Grandfather found a large fossil bone in the 1950s and thinking it was from a very large bullock he took it to the Alcoota station manager. The first serious study of the Alcoota fossil site started in 1962.
