This painting shows emus and kangaroos moving across the Central Australian desert. These animals are part of everyday life for Aboriginal people who live out on this Country. They are often seen walking through the open spaces, searching for food, shade, and water.

After rain, the land changes for a short time. Small puddles form along the dirt roads and in low places. Emus and kangaroos come to drink from these puddles, taking in the fresh water before it dries up again. For people travelling through the area, it is a familiar and welcome sight to see these animals gathering near the water.

The painting celebrates the strong connection between the land, the animals, and the people who know this Country well. It shows the beauty of the desert and the life that continues to move across it, even in the harshest seasons.
