This painting tells the story of the megafauna that once lived on the land near my community. These were giant animals that roamed this Country millions of years ago, long before people were here.
Their bones and footprints are still found in the ground at Alcoota. Some bones are small, and some are very big. Scientists come to this area to look for them. They dig carefully in the soil, brushing away the dirt bit by bit.
When they find bones, they piece them together like a puzzle. This helps them learn what these ancient creatures looked like and how they lived on this land.
The painting shows that the Country holds old stories deep beneath the surface. The bones remind us that this land has a long history, and many secrets are still waiting to be discovered.
